Meet the SmartShield Team: Sam Botterill, Customer Happiness Manager

Welcome to our first Meet The Team blog post.

Today, we’re catching up with Customer Happiness Manager - and all-round brilliant team mate - Sam Botterill.

Read on to discover why he loves being a part of the SmartShield team, the best place he’s ever travelled to and why country music influences his day-to-day life!

Hi Sam! So tell us, when did you start working at SmartShield?

When I was just a young boy, as I’m part of the family who started the business.

When I wasn’t at school, you could often find me helping out on simple projects - even if it was just cutting the grass! I was officially employed, however, in July 2011.

What is about the company that made you want to be part of the team?

To help my family grow a business we started from scratch, so that we can provide for others.

So, SmartShield is in your blood - but how does it beat the competition?

The team.

We have a team that is passionate about providing packaging done right - add to that, that we have access to the latest technology, manufacturing capabilities, a vast array of materials and products to work with, and industry experience, to make sure we make a success of each project.

What does an average day in the life of SmartShield’s Customer Happiness Manager look like?

Largely helping to solve internal and external challenges, while making sure our customers quotes, orders and deliveries happen on time and correctly.

Oh, and lots of coffee!

Be honest, do you read up on packaging even when you’re not working?

I would be lying if I said no - LOL - but I am an advocate for a healthy work-life balance to avoid burnout. 

Okay, so what do you get up to in your free time?

Competing in games.

Anything from crokinole (Editor’s note: for the uninitiated, a disk-flicking dexterity board game, played on a circular wooden board with wooden circular disks as playing pieces!) to soccer.

I also love hiking with my Wife, visiting small breweries and wineries, and driving fast vehicles!

Where’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?

Probably Barbados – the culture is fascinating and I love swimming and diving.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone’s given you?

To quote Tim McGraw: “Always be humble and kind”.

I find fulfilment in helping others reach theirs.
